The JICC is proud to present Soichi Muraji live in concert. This is an excellent opportunity to see one of the young masters of classical guitar in an intimate setting.
Born in 1982, Soichi Muraji has played the guitar since he was three years old.Over the years he has captured first place in many guitar competitions including the 41st Annual Tokyo International Guitar Competition in 1998 at only 16 years old. In 1999 Muraji came to Boston to study under David Leisner and Eliot Fist at the New England Conservatory. He currently studies with David Leisner at The Manhattan School of Music in New York. He was chosen to perform in the September 2006 September 11th memorial concert.
The 2008 National Cherry Blossom Festival will also feature performances by Soichi at the Tidal Basin Stage- Friday, April 4 at 1pm and Saturday, April 5 at 12pm. The Tidal Basin Stage is located at 455 12th St SW. These performances are free of charge, no reservations are required.
Soichi has released five solo albums since 2003, all on Victor Entertainment, Inc. His sixth solo cd, “Reverie” will be released in May on RCA Records Japan.
The expected program for the JICC performance will include: El Ultimo Tremolo (Agustín Barrios), Over The Rainbow (Harold Arlen / Arr. Toru Takemitsu), Felicidade (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes /Arr.Roland dyens), among others.
