ASEAN has welcomed two more Ambassadors from the European Union, making it a total of 14 Ambassadors to ASEAN from EU Member States. Mr. Klaus Otto Wölfer from Austria and Mr. Roberto Palmieri from Italy presented their letter of appointments to the Secretary-General of ASEAN today.[more..]

Four more current Ambassadors to Indonesia accredited to ASEAN 2009

The Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Surin Pitsuwan, has received the appointment letters of the Czech Ambassador to ASEAN, Pavel Rezac; Finnish Ambassador to ASEAN, Antti Koistinen;German Ambassador to ASEAN, Baron Paul Von Maltzahn; and the Commission of the European Communities Representative to ASEAN, Julian Wilson. The Ambassadors called on Dr Surin at the ASEAN Secretariat today and presented their letters of appointment.

Dr Surin warmly welcomed them to ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat. He said, "We appreciate the European Union's move to further deepen relations with ASEAN following the entry into force of the ASEAN Charter on 15 December 2008. It reflects the EU's commitment to engage ASEAN on all levels. The accreditation of Ambassadors by all 27 EU Member States and the EC to ASEAN will serve to strengthen the links between the two regions politically, economically and culturally.[more..]

Martin Hatfull, First UK Ambassador to Asean

The British Government as UK Ambassador to ASEAN has appointed British Ambassador Martin Hatfull, currently posted to Indonesia. In a press release, UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband has written to ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan appointing Martin Hatfull as UK Ambassador to Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN.

Ambassador Hatfull said, “I am delighted to have been appointed as the UK’s first Ambassador to ASEAN. It is a great honour for me. The UK attaches great importance to its relationship with ASEAN both bilaterally and as a member of the EU. We believe that ASEAN has an increasingly important role to play both regionally and globally and I look forward very much to working with Secretary General Surin and his team to help achieve our common goals”[more..]
