SATOO RESTAURANT PRESENTS PADANG CUISINE
DURING LAMAK BANA PROMOTION

As a symbol of appreciation to the rich traditional cuisine of West Sumatra, SATOO international restaurant at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta offers diners the chance to indulge in the culinary delights of West Sumatra from 20 to 31 July 2009. SATOO’s versatile chefs will prepare a range of Padang-style cuisine to delight diners who crave the traditional food of West Sumatra.
Padang cuisine is renowned for its fiery taste obtained from coconut milk and spices. Lamak Bana – the Padang language term for “very delicious” – reflects the indigenous cuisine of West Sumatra. Diners can enjoy special traditional dishes served at the Padang food stall during lunch and dinner, including spicy Ketupat Sayur (Rice Dumpling with Jackfruit Stew), refreshing Gado-gado Padang (Mixed Vegetables with Spicy Peanut Sauce), and zesty Soto Padang (Beef Soup with Coconut Milk).
Ketupat is made from rice that is wrapped in a woven palm leaf pouch and boiled, while in Ketupat Sayur, the ketupat is served with stewed green jackfruit with poached egg. Gado-gado is created from mixed steamed vegetables, potatoes, poached egg and chicken meat with spicy peanut sauce poured over it, while Soto Padang highlights slices of beef, leek, potato and rice vermicelli, which are cooked in a special coconut and beef broth.
Besides the Padang food stall, SATOO will prepare traditional dishes at the salad and Indonesian kitchen stations. Diners will be able to enjoy the uplifting Selada Padang (Padang Salad) appetiser that will awaken the appetite of diners, while Selada Bebek dengan Sambal Hijau (Duck Salad with Green Sauce), Balado Teri Jengki dan Kentang (Sautéed Salted Fish with Potato and Chilli), Belut Goreng dengan Sambal Balado (Fried Eel with Chilli Sauce) and Selada Cumi dengan Sohun dan Jamur (Cuttlefish with Rice Vermicelli and Mushroom) will surprise diners with their spicy tastes.
Dishes at the Indonesian station such as Kalio Ayam (Chicken in Coconut Gravy), Udang Balado (Sautéed Prawn with Chilli), Rendang Daging (Padang-style Beef Stew), Ayam Panggang Minang (Minang-style Grilled Chicken), Gulai Cumi (Cuttlefish Stew), Gulai Tunjang (Beef Leg Stew), will all be available for diners. Famous Sate Padang (Beef Satay Padang-style) will be presented in the restaurant’s steamer along with Lalapan Daun Singkong (Poached Cassava Leaves) and Ikan Kakap Kukus dengan Saus Gulai (Steamed Snapper with Gulai Sauce).
Martabak Kubang – a crêpe-like dish stuffed with spicy filling – will be the highlight of the teppan station during the promotion. Also known as Egyptian Martabak in Indonesia, Martabak Kubang features crispy thin skin and succulent fillings made from a mixture of meat, vegetables and egg. Roti Jala dan Kari (Perforated Thin Bread with Curry) will also be available at the teppan station.
Traditional Padang-style desserts that can be enjoyed by diners will include Bubur Kampiun (Sweet Dessert Made from Banana, Glutinous Rice and Rice Flour), Ketupat Ketan dan Tape Ketan Hitam (Black Glutinous Rice Dumpling and Fermented Black Glutinous Rice), Bugis Ketan Hitam (Black Glutinous Rice Cake) and Manisan Kolang-kaling (Preserved Palm Fruits).
Food will not be the only focal point during the Lamak Bana promotion. Diners have the chance to watch traditional dances of West Sumatra during dinner. Dancers will present Tari Lilin (Candle Dance) and Tari Payung (Umbrella Dance). A Rumah Gadang – a Padang traditional house – will be placed in front of SATOO to give a Padang touch to the promotion.
SATOO restaurant can seat 425 people in five different dining areas and two semi‑private dining rooms and spans more than 1,408 square metres. During the Lamak Bana promotion, SATOO will offer buffet-style lunch and dinner that includes jamu drinks (Indonesian herbal drinks), coffee and tea for only Rp. 198,000++ per person for lunch on Monday to Saturday, and Rp. 238,000++ for dinner on Monday to Thursday. The dinner buffet is available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for only Rp. 258,000++, while the Sunday Brunch buffet costs Rp. 258,000++.
The restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The breakfast buffet is available from 6 to 10 a.m. The lunch buffet is available from noon to 2:30 p.m. and the dinner buffet is available from 6 to 10:30 p.m.
