Jakarta Event - Photography Exhibition AFTERMATH

Aftermath

Indonesia In The Midst of Catastrophes

Aftermath: Indonesia In The Midst of Catastrophes is a visual record of several of the terrible disasters that Indonesia has experienced over the past decade. This exhibition will also include an audio-visual presentation and discussion. While preserving history and honoring the triumph of the human spirit to survive periods full of despair, Aftermath also serves as a valuable lesson for us to be better prepared in anticipating and facing similar phenomena in the future. Proceeds from the sale of several select limited edition photographs will be donated to a number of disaster victims as scholarships, business capital or in some other form.

For the audio-visual presentation, Jufri is collaborating with a number of other talents including an original musical score by Indonesia’s leading cellist and composer Dimawan Krisnowo Adji with vocals by esteemed Acehnese ethnomusicologist Nyak Ina “Ubiet” Raseuki. The multi-media stage presentation will open with over a hundred images in motion accompanied live by Mr. Dimawan on the cello and Ubiet on vocals.

A selected number of poems written for the book by Dina Purita Antonio-Jufri -- freelance writer and wife of Kemal Jufri -- will also be read by Acehnese poet Debra H. Yatim during the opening. It will be showcased at Teater Salihara, a blackbox theater with a maximum seating capacity of 252, the only one of its kind in the country.

Kemal Jufri began his career in photography more than a decade ago as a photo-journalist contracted by the French news agency, Agence France Presse (AFP) Jakarta bureau (1996). He has won a number of international awards, among them, World Press Photo, Picture of The Year International and Prix De La Photographie Paris.
