Directors by Marzuki Mohammad and Chandra Hutagaol

Jogja Hip Hop Foundation is a hip hop group from Yogyakarta which uses Javanese language in its lyrics. With Marzuki Mohammad as the driving force, this group combines local culture with hip hop. They began their activities with neighborhood performances eventually performing on international stages. In 2007 and 2008, this group released two albums using texts of Indonesian poetry as their lyrics, Poetry Battle 1 and Poetry Battle 2. The two albums consisting of a compilation of a number of hip hop musicians sold thousands of copies within a few months.

After music albums, Jogja Hip Hop Foundation produced a documentary film about the group’s work over the past seven years and the development of Javanese hip hop in Indonesia. Titled Hip Hop Diningrat, this film is seen as an important record for the history of hip hop music in Yogyakarta.
