Screenplay by Titien Wattimena

After the films Paris Je t’aime and New York, I Love You, now comes Belkibolang. An abbreviated form of the phrase “belok kiri boleh langsung” (“turning left directly is allowed”), which is usually written on the corner of intersections, Belkibolang is an omnibus of nine short films based on life in Jakarta at night.  Based on a scenario written by Titien Wattimena, nine directors (Edwin, Wisnu Surya Pratama, Tumpal Tampubolon, Anggun Priambodo, Agung Sentausa, Ifa Isfansyah, Sidi Saleh, Azhar Lubis, and Rico Marpaung) take a look at a number of aspects of urban life in Jakarta with a sense of irony, humor, but also suspense. In the nine short films, among others there are stories of an umbrella renter, a taxi driver on New Year’s Eve, a teenage couple at a motel, and a prostitute who will go to her hometown during Ramadan. With an array of moods, ways of storytelling, and visual styles, each film captures various unexpected angles of the hubbub and commotion of Jakarta.
