About JHG
Jakarta Highland Gathering (JHG) has a 30 year history in Jakarta which encompasses all the best Scottish traditions but adds to them the fun and excitement of a modern festival for all the family. It is the largest expatriate event in Indonesia and operates under the patronships of His Excellency The UK Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Martin Hatfull and H.E. The Governor of Jakarta, Mr. Fauzi Bowo.
Who's going to be there?
JHG has long been enjoyed by the Jakarta community, bringing together expats and Indonesians in a day of fun, sport, entertainment and spectacle, backed up by wining and dining and side shows, but now we want to bring you more as we open to the entire international community and make it more kids-friendly. We expect a total of 10,000 visitors during the day.
The new look
First of all the emphasis has to be completely on FAMILIES since the parents cannot enjoy themselves without the kids being well entertained, safe, secure and supervised
To achieve that we have divided the JHG into five principal areas :

» AREA ONE: CHILDREN'S MARQUEE
This will be a fully covered, secure area completely controlled and Supervised by professionals from International Schools and Pre schools. There will be a series of activity tents all of which will be air-conditioned and watertight. Children will have between 20-30 pastimes to pursue here as well as general play areas.

» AREA TWO: TEEN ARENA
Open area with some tented shading but focused on two performance areas :
• The Stage
• The X games Arena
The Teen Arena will concentrate on having three parallel competitions : a rock band competition, a half court 3-on-3 basketball and futsal field.

» AREA THREE: MAIN STANDS AND TRIBUNES
Public seating areas with full view of the competition field. No F &B on site. Covered seating. The Tribunes will be sold to corporate sponsors and will all be tented pavilions with either full catering or self catering for their guests. Air-conditioning will be available.

» AREA FOUR: FOOD FESTIVAL
This is a separate tented area which will be run as a series of gourmet cafes inside a marquee. With full a/c and cover this will be a premium space to hang out and eat, cool and clean. There will also be a casual dining area.
We expect to have 20-30 stalls serving foods from Sushi to steak and Indonesian to Italian.

This is the essence of the 'New Look', different sections of the JHG to serve different needs, and in this way attract and retain more families than ever before.
FORMAT AND ORGANISATION
The JHG'10 is only part of a larger series of events under the Highland Gathering banner:
- The JHG Golf Tournament (the week before)
- Press conference and gathering at the British Ambassador's residence (the week before)
- Scotland in Concert (The Friday before)
- The games themselves (Sunday)
- A closing party (on the night)
The concert and party will feature a well known Scottish band.
CORE EVENT RUNDOWN
The games will as always be centred around the traditional highland gathering sports and competitions, with this typical rundown program :
• Piping and drumming Competition
• Dance Competition
• Heavies ( professional )
• Tug O'War
• Sporting games ;Rugby / Football / Volleyball
• Cultural Shows (International)
• Running and Jumping for adults and kids
• Burning of the boat and fireworks at the finale
But will also have spectacular events e.g. woodchoppers, parachute jumping, military display (tattoo style) or other ideas. There may also be an exhibition of Classic Cars, motorcycles, etc.

Jakarta Highland Gathering is the largest highland gathering event in the Southern Hemisphere, expecting 10,000 attendees this year. It is not only a fun family day out, but also a charity event.
